What are the advantages of the Kliux Energies turbines?

What is the minimum average wind speed that I need? How can I find out if my location meets the minimum speed requirements?

It starts to rotate at a speed of 3.5 metres/second (12.6km/h) and to generate energy from 4 m/s. You can find out the average wind speed at the location by installing an anemometer for a period of approximately 3 months.  Another less precise option is to consult nearby weather stations or wind maps such as those provided by the IDAE .

How should I use the energy that is generated?

It will be the type of energy consumption you have and whether it is or is not connected to the network that determines the optimum way of using the energy and as a result the appropriate proportions for the installation, incorporating complementary generation systems such as a photovoltaic solar system or a battery bank if necessary.

Where can I install a Kliux VAWT?

The Kliux Energies aerogenerators can be positioned in rural and urban environments, either on the ground or directly on a roof that is sufficiently resistant.

As they don’t make any noise, they are suitable for installation in residential or urban areas.

What do I need to do to obtain the installation permits?

The procedures necessary for the installation of the turbine depend on local regulations.  The first thing you need to do is consult the corresponding town hall.  The authorised Kliux installer will be able to assist you with this in each particular case.

Where are the turbines manufactured?

The aerogenerator is manufactured entirely in Spain by us, and is ultimately assembled in our plant in Pradejón (La Rioja).  Other complementary parts such as the electronics are purchased in both Spain and other countries.

What is the guarantee period?

We offer a minimum of 3 years’ guarantee on all parts which can be extended at the client’s request.

What are the dimensions of the Kliux aerogenerator?

9.9 metres high in total.  3.1 metre rotor, placed on a mast + 6.83 metre transmission box (generator). The height of the mast can be extended if necessary.

How much energy does the Kliux Zebra generate in 1 year?

The amount of energy generated by the aerogenerator depends greatly on the average annual wind speed.  For example, on a site with 4 m/s annual average wind speed, the energy produced is 736 kWh, whilst with 11 m/s this multiplies to exceed 6.892 kWh. Kliux’s technical team adapts the turbine based on the average wind speed of the location to obtain the maximum potential output.

What is the nominal power of the Kliux Zebra?

The nominal power of the current turbine is up to 1.800 W.

What are the connection and disconnection wind speeds?

The wind speed which the turbine connects at is 3 m/s, whilst the speed it disconnects at is not applicable because the machine, thanks to its own aerodynamics, limits its maximum rotational speed, and can continue producing energy when conventional turbines would need to stop.

What are the noise and vibration characteristics?

The noise produced at a distance of 10 m and with 6 m/s winds is 32.6 dB, whilst with 10 m/s winds it’s 47.2 dB. Both of these values are below the legal limits in place (60 dB during the day and 50 dB at night).

What is the mass of the Kliux Wind Turbine?

Rotor + Generator and transmisssion’s weight: 375 kg. Mast Weight starting at 351 Kg.

What distance needs to be left between the turbines installed?

The separation between the machines depends on where the wind is coming from:

  • In areas with a variable wind direction throughout the year, the recommended distance between aerogenerators, in all directions is 16 m.
  • In areas with a predominant wind direction throughout the year, the recommended distances between the aerogenerators is 16 m in the predominant direction and 6.5 m in the direction perpendicular to this.
  • To install turbines at a variable height, the recommended distance between the bottom of the highest and the top of the lowest is 1.5 m.

Does the Kliux Zebra have the necessary certification?

It has the ISO: 9001, 14001 and the European CE conformity certification and is in the process of obtaining certification according to the characteristics established by the IEC 61400-2/ -11/ -12 AWEA9.1, BWEA 2009 Standard.

What useful life does the design have?

The Kliux Energies turbines have a durability of 25 years.

What is the environmental impact of the turbine?

Unlike the large aerogenerators, the Kliux turbines don’t have any environmental impact because they produce hardly any noise, are low in height, not too bulky and easily detectable by birds.

They can also be blended in with the environment by using appropriate adhesives or paintings on both the mast and the blades of the rotor.

Can the turbine be used in off-grid systems or does it always have to be connected to the electrical network?

Both options are possible.  We have different solutions for both cases.

Is more energy obtained when the turbine is installed on the ground or on a roof?

With the same wind characteristics, the same amount of energy is obtained if the turbine is placed at the same height.  In both cases, attempts will always be made to avoid nearby obstacles which cause a loss of productivity.  A study prior to installation of the turbine will determine the optimum location and solution.

Can wind supervision be provided on our proposed site?

With each turbine, we always provide the anemometric equipment suitable for monitoring the wind.

Is the turbine suitable for marine environments?

Yes. The Kliux Energies turbine is prepared for exposure to marine environments and protected against the demanding conditions of salinity and humidity typical of the coast.  A high number of our aerogenerators are currently installed in sea ports.

Does the turbine have any negative impact on birds?

No. This is one of the unique features of the Kliux Zebra turbine.  As it rotates slowly and is easily visible by birds, there is no risk of collision.

What is the swept area of a Kliux Wind Turbine? What is its equivalent size compared to a horizontal axis turbine?

The swept area of the Kliux Zebra rotor is 6 m2, equivalent to a diameter of 2.76 m. in a horizontal axis turbine.

What is the capacity factor of a Kliux Zebra?

This value depends on the energy that has actually been obtained in a year in a specific location.  Depending on this, the capacity factor varies significantly.

How many turbines are installed at the moment?

To date, we have installed seven turbines in all of Spain, in inland and coastal areas, for different purposes, both public and private, and for individuals and businesses.

Can I export electricity to the network?

Yes. We have the necessary control electronics to transfer all the energy generated to the conventional electricity network.  This also largely depends on the regulations applicable in each country.

Can I install the turbine on a pre-existing building?

To find out, a prior study must be performed of the structure of the building to determine whether it would be necessary to make any additional reinforcements to the building or to evaluate the fixation method.

Does Kliux's service include the designing the foundations as well as the installation?

Yes, Kliux can offer you a turnkey energy solution using authorised installers. If offers both the method used to attach your turbines (either on the ground or on a building) and their installation by specialised staff.

Apart from the turbine itself, what other equipment do I need?

The turbine on its own is of no use: you also need the appropriate control electronics according to the type of installation being implemented (off-grid or grid connected).

What do I need to do to obtain the installation permits? Can Kliux Energies help me?

The installation permits depend on the local regulations, managed by the corresponding town hall.  Kliux Energies or its authorised installers can carry out the necessary procedures for you.

What is the procedure and process for installation?

  1. You must contact the company, either directly by calling the number +34 941 102 410, through our website www.kliux.com or by sending an email to info@kliux.com.
  2. Once basic information has been obtained, a study will be carried out to determine the viability of the installation of a turbine: location, anchorage methods, available winds, legislation…
  3. If the study is favourable, we will present the budget or technical and economic proposal for your approval.
  4. We will proceed to request the permits required and to design the anchorage method.
  5. Completion of the minor building work (concrete base if it is on the ground) and channelling necessary for the connection cabling.
  6. Between 3 weeks and 1 month later the installation will be assembled and connected.

How much time is needed to assemble a turbine?

Once the fixation for the turbine is in place, its installation can be carried out in four hours.

What does the maintenance consist of?

It is recommended to review the turbine once a year, mainly to check its mobile elements.
